Cervical Smears – ‘How it Works’
If you have been invited for cervical screening (a smear test), you may have questions or concerns about how your appointment will work now. We hope this page gives you answers or points you in the right direction to get them.
Read our full ‘How it works now’ series > If you are due (or over due) your smear test, please telephone our Receptionists on 01775 71599, who will be able to book you an appointment.
From September 2025, you’ll be able to get your cervical screening results even more quickly and easily.
If your result is negative (normal), it will be sent straight to you through the NHS App, with a notification popping up on your phone or tablet.
Don’t worry if you miss it – if you haven’t read the message within 72 hours, a letter will still be sent by post as a backup. Any abnormal results will continue to arrive by post, just as they do now.
